　　该句的谓语为被动语态，contract作动词，意为“与……订（……的）合同”。该句可译为：与外面的公司订立合同负责维护、修理和检查主要的设备，如电梯。
　　4. A property owner without either hot or cold water wastes no time making
　　this fact known.
　　介词短语without either…or…作owner的定语，可译为：没有冷水或热水的业主。
　　Waste no time意为“不要浪费一点时间，赶快”，making this fact known是一个复合结构，known作宾语fact的补足语，意为“告诉别人”。
　　5. Drains can become stopped in the course of everyday use.
　　下水道在每日的使用中有可能堵塞。
　　6. On upper floors, plugged drains may cause flooding.
　　楼上堵塞的下水道也许会引起淹水。

　　要是我将来有了足够的钱，我就会独自一人乘船周游世界。
